Sri Lanka 070905l: The Tea Factory

Sri Lanka = Tea, so just outside Kandy we do a quickie trip to this tea factory. It gets tea leaves from the surrounding plantations, all hand-picked. Posted by Picasa

The tea leaves are dried and separated here according to size. And the smallest dusty bits are turned into tea-bags!Posted by Picasa

Sacks and chests of tea leaves, ready for sale. There are more than 1,000 tea factories in Sri Lanka, and 95% of it is exported. Tea leaves are auctioned off to international brokers who then sell them off to tea manufacturers such as Lipton, Tetley, Twinnings, Ahmad, etc. So what you see here is OEM tea, the original thing!
